U.S. marks 25 years since Sept. 11; Trump speaks at Pentagon
The United States observed the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks that killed about 2,977 people at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pa. President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth spoke Friday at the Pentagon ceremony; Vice President JD Vance attended the Ground Zero / National September 11 Memorial ceremony in New York with former presidents; other administration officials were at the Flight 93 National Memorial. New York’s ceremony added a seventh moment of silence for people who died later from toxic-dust illnesses. The same day, the CIA released 71 declassified President’s Daily Brief products (Feb. 1998–Sept. 12, 2001) on bin Laden and al-Qaeda threats briefed to Presidents Clinton and Bush — Director John Ratcliffe called it the agency’s largest 9/11 analysis release. Friday is also Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance.
