Dodgers place Shohei Ohtani on 15-day IL, call up prospect Josue De Paula
Los Angeles placed two-way star Shohei Ohtani on the 15-day injured list Thursday and called up top outfield prospect Josue De Paula, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale and club briefings reported. Ohtani cited biceps soreness after an 0-for-3 return from four days off; he is eligible to return Sept. 23 with five regular-season games left as the Dodgers chase a third straight World Series title. De Paula is expected to DH and see outfield time.

USA Today and national baseball desks cast the IL move as caution after biceps soreness — resting Ohtani for a September stretch run and October rather than risking a bigger injury with a third straight World Series bid on the line.
